    Configurator · Build & buy

Light the garden yourself and add every part to your basket

Plug & play garden lighting runs on 12V, plugs into an outdoor socket, and needs no wiring in the garden. Lay the garden out run by run and the configurator picks the cable, sizes the driver against the fittings you have chosen, adds wireless switching if you want it, and draws you a plan of the finished system.

    1. 1
Lay out the runsA run is one cable with 3 or 6 plug-in points, one driver, and the lights plugged into it. Add as many runs as the garden needs.
    2. 2
Fill them with lightsSpike spotlights and wall spotlights, in the finish and colour temperature you want. They share the same drivers and cables, so they mix freely on one run.
    3. 3
Choose how it switchesStraight into a weatherproof outdoor socket, or add a Wise Controls kit and switch the garden wirelessly.
    4. 4
Straight into your basketEvery light, cable, driver and part as its own line, with a scale plan of the system to download as a PDF.

Mains outdoor lighting is a job for a qualified electrician under Part P. This is the range that isn't — and there's more of it on the garden spike lights page.

    Outdoor & Garden Lighting Guide

Everything you need to know about choosing, installing, and getting the most from outdoor lighting — from pathway safety lights to smart garden systems.

    PathwaysSpike Lights & Bollard Lights

Ground-level fixtures ideal for lining paths, driveways, and garden borders. Spike lights are fully repositionable. Bollard and post lights provide more permanent illumination along larger garden routes.

    Feature LightingSpotlights & Recessed Uplights

Focused beams used to highlight trees, sculptures, water features, and architectural facades. Recessed ground uplights install flush with driveways and patios for a sleek, uncluttered look.

    EntrancesOutdoor Wall Lights & Downlights

Wall-mounted lanterns and IP-rated ceiling downlights are the go-to choice for porches, gates, and covered entrances. Available from classic black lanterns to contemporary minimalist fittings.

    SecurityFloodlights & PIR Sensor Lights

Motion-activated PIR sensor lights and high-lumen LED floodlights provide broad coverage for driveways, rear gardens, and vulnerable areas. Many integrate with smart home systems.

AmbienceStrip Lights, Pendants & Festoon Lighting

Weatherproof LED strip lights, hanging pendants, and festoon bulb strings create warm atmosphere for entertaining spaces and alfresco dining areas.

    CoastalCoastal & Marine Grade Lighting

Marine-grade fixtures use 316 stainless steel, UV-stable powder coatings, and corrosion-resistant components specifically designed for seaside properties.

    Smart ControlsWireless Garden Lighting Controls

Smart outdoor lighting systems like Wise Controls allow full wireless management — set schedules, adjust brightness, create lighting scenes, and control via app.

    ChoosingChoosing the Right Outdoor Lighting

A layered approach works best — wall lights at entrances, spike or bollard lights along paths, and spotlights or uplights to feature plants and architecture. Consider IP rating, colour temperature (2700K–3000K for gardens), control options, and finish for your environment.

    IP RatingsIP Ratings & Weatherproofing

IP44 suits sheltered outdoor use; IP65 suits exposed areas; IP67/IP68 are required for in-ground and submerged applications. Always match the IP rating to the installation location.

Energy SavingLED Outdoor Lighting & Running Costs

Modern LED outdoor lights use up to 80% less energy than halogen and last 25,000–50,000 hours. Combined with PIR sensors or smart timers, LED lighting dramatically reduces running costs.

    InstallationInstallation Advice

Permanent outdoor lighting must be installed by a qualified electrician under Part P of the Building Regulations. Our team is happy to advise — call 020 8874 2234 or email info@mr-resistor.co.uk for free guidance.
