Shop UplightsEvery business space has different needs — a quiet office wants soft, even light; a shop wants something more dramatic to show off products. We stock fittings to suit all of them, and we're happy to suggest a few options if you're not sure where to start.
Comfortable, low-glare lighting that's easy on the eyes through a long working day. Panels, recessed downlights and linear pendants all work well.
Bright, flattering light that shows off your stock. Track lighting and accent spots let you direct attention to displays and rearrange them as you go.
Warm, dimmable lighting that sets the mood — usually a mix of pendants over tables, soft downlights overhead and accent lighting on bars and counters.
Layered lighting for lobbies, corridors and guest areas, with controls that can shift the feel from morning bright to evening cosy.
Clean, true-to-life lighting where colour matters — for hairdressers, beauty rooms, dental practices, photography studios and similar settings.
Bright, robust fittings for back-of-house, stockrooms, garages and small workshops — battens, bulkheads and high bays do the heavy lifting.
Floodlights, bollards, in-ground uplights and façade lighting for entrances, car parks, signage and outdoor seating.
Hard-wearing fittings with the option to add motion sensors and emergency back-up — practical lighting for the parts of a building everyone passes through.
Lighting is one of the easiest places to cut a business's running costs. Swapping older fittings for LED, and adding simple controls like dimmers or motion sensors, usually pays for itself within a couple of years — and the lights look better while they're doing it.
You don't need to be a lighting expert to plan a business space — but a handful of things are worth bearing in mind early on. We're happy to talk any of these through, and for anything wiring-related your electrician will be the right person to involve.
If the public visits your premises or staff work on-site, you'll usually need emergency lighting on escape routes. It's a quick add when you're already changing fittings.
Fittings in toilets, showers and outdoors need to be rated for moisture. We can guide you to the right ones — see our bathroom zones guide for the basics.
New buildings and major refurbishments have stricter rules on how efficient the lighting needs to be. If that applies to your project, get in touch and we'll point you at products that fit.
Some leases and insurers have their own requirements for lighting — particularly emergency lighting and signage. Worth a quick check before you order.
Decide up front whether you want to dim. Dimmable fittings cost a little more but give you a lot more flexibility — especially in restaurants, salons and hospitality settings.
Anything that gets wired in should be installed by a qualified electrician. We're happy to liaise with them on the technical side — wiring diagrams, drivers and control gear.
Smart controls used to be the preserve of big-budget projects. They aren't any more. A handful of dimmable fittings and a wireless control system like Casambi can transform how a space feels — and we'll happily talk through what's possible if you're not sure where to start.

Our in-house design team has put together lighting for shops, restaurants, offices and small business spaces all over London — drawing on more than fifty years of lighting expertise. Send us plans or photos of your space and we'll suggest a scheme, including which fittings go where and how they'll be controlled.
The questions we get asked most often by shop, café and office owners
For most small offices, a mix of recessed downlights or LED panels overhead — with a softer pendant or two over meeting tables — gives an even, comfortable light. We'd suggest dimmable fittings if your budget allows: it makes the space far more pleasant in the late afternoon and evening. Pop in and we'll talk it through with you.
Both let you dim lights and group them into zones. DALI is wired — it's a good fit if your electrician is putting in new cabling anyway. Casambi is wireless and runs from a phone app over Bluetooth, which makes it the easier choice if you're updating an existing space without rewiring. We're happy to demo either in our Wandsworth showroom.
Most business premises do — including shops, cafés, restaurants, offices and salons. The basic idea is that if the power fails, there's still enough light for people to find their way out safely. The specifics depend on your space, so it's worth checking with your electrician or fire-risk assessor. We can supply emergency luminaires and illuminated exit signs to suit.
It depends on what you've got now and how long the lights are on each day, but the savings are usually substantial. A café that's lit twelve hours a day might pay back the cost of switching within two or three years — and then save on its electricity bill from there on out. Send us your existing fittings and we can give you a rough comparison.
Yes. Our in-house design team offers three levels of service — from a quick consultation in the showroom through to full plans showing where every light goes. We've worked on shops, restaurants, offices and salons all over London. Read more about our design service.
Warm white light (around 2700K) and dimmable fittings, layered to create different zones — pendants over tables, soft downlights overhead, and a bit of accent lighting on the bar or feature walls. The ability to dim from bright at lunchtime to cosy in the evening makes a huge difference to how the space feels.
For high ceilings, LED high bays give plenty of light over a wide area. For lower ceilings, IP-rated battens or weatherproof fittings tend to do the job. Motion sensors are a good addition for aisles and storage areas that are empty for most of the day — they'll switch the lights on only when someone's actually there.
Yes — floodlights, bollards along paths, in-ground uplights for façades, and outdoor wall lights for entrances and signage. Anything outside needs to be weather-rated, and we'll point you to the right ones. For larger outdoor schemes, our design team can put together a plan.
