    Two profiles

    Both take the same magnetic fittings. The difference is what the ceiling has to give you.

    No ceiling void

    6mm Surface

    Six millimetres proud of the ceiling. Fixes straight onto the soffit — no void, no plastering, and the only Laser profile that can branch.

    Trimless

    Bedded into the plasterboard and finished flush with a cover strip. Needs only 4mm of ceiling depth — but it is sold with straight and corner joints only, so trimless runs cannot branch.

    Shop trimless parts

    Both profiles are supplied in whole sections — 1000mm and 2000mm on surface, 2000mm on trimless — and the configurator builds runs from those rather than cutting to size, so a trimless leg comes in even metres. Only the surface profile is sold with T and X joints, so a branched layout — a spine with a spur, or a crossroads — has to be surface mounted.

    Runs that branch

    Most track turns corners. Laser also splits — so one run can light a corridor and the room it opens onto.

    Straight

    A single run. The most track per pound, and the easiest to set out.

    L-shape

    One corner. Turns along two walls, or wraps a kitchen return.

    Ceiling to wall

    Crosses the ceiling then turns down the wall. The only shape that leaves the plane of the ceiling, so it needs the vertical corner joint.

    Surface only

    U-shape

    Three legs, two corners. Wraps three sides of an island or a bay.

    Z-shape

    Two corners turning opposite ways — steps a run across a change of ceiling line.

    Rectangle

    A closed loop over an island or a table. No open ends, so nothing to cap.

    T-branch

    A spine with a spur off it. Lights a corridor and the room it opens onto from one run. Surface profile only.

    X-cross

    Four arms from one node — a crossroads over an open-plan floor. Surface profile only.

    Clip the driver into the track, or hide it in the ceiling. The choice changes what the run can carry — and how much of it is left for fittings.

    Track-mounted switching

    Clips into the run. On/off only.

    The simplest install: the driver clips into the channel like a fitting and is wired to a switched live. Nothing in the ceiling void, nothing to find later — but it occupies run length that fittings then cannot use, and it will not dim.

    Remote Triac dimming

    In the ceiling. Dims from a standard wall dimmer.

    Hidden in the void and wired to the track through a power feed, so the run carries nothing but track and fittings. Dims from an ordinary mains dimmer — no app, no commissioning. Up to 10 metres of cable from driver to track.

    IP65 constant-voltage supplies for runs no other family will carry — 240W and 480W. On/off only, and physically large, so they want a proper void or a plant cupboard.

    App control over Bluetooth mesh — scenes, zones and schedules, with no gateway needed for a single space. The specifier's choice where the lighting has to do more than go up and down.

    A track-mounted driver is its own power feed, so there is nothing in the ceiling to find later — but it occupies up to 360mm of the run that fittings then cannot use. A remote driver leaves the whole run free, and wants a power feed and a cable box to bring the supply in tidily. Keep it within 10 metres of the track.
